IMPACT OF MIGRANT WORKERS ON THE ECONOMY
Early day motion 2068, tabled 2 May 2006 by Keith Vaz (Labour). Signed by 39 members.
That this House welcomes reports from the Ernst and Young Item Club that the influx of 329,000 migrant workers from Eastern Europe has had a positive effect on the British economy; acknowledges that these workers have helped to keep interest rates at half a point lower than they otherwise would be; and further notes that migrant workers often fill gaps in the economy where the supply of indigenous workers cannot meet demand.
