Early day motion 1962, tabled 18 April 2006 by Sir David Amess (Conservative). Signed by 43 members.

That this House notes that two pregnancies in every thousand in the UK are afflicted by neural tube defects, which is preventable by taking a daily folic acid supplement of 400ug, a crucial nutrient for the development of the unborn child; welcomes the work of Folic Acid Action, an expert panel of healthcare professionals that aims to improve awareness and uptake of folic acid supplements amongst all women of child bearing age; believes that health care professionals should routinely discuss and recommend folic acid supplementation to all women of child bearing age; and calls on the Government to finance a clear, consistent and innovative health campaign promoting the benefits of folic acid supplementation.
