RACIST INCIDENTS
Early day motion 1957, tabled 30 March 2006 by Keith Vaz (Labour). Signed by 39 members.
That this House is appalled by the latest Home Office figures from 2004-05 indicating that racist incidents recorded by the police are up by 12 per cent. to 59,257; further notes that the stop and search policy by police officers has gone up by 14 per cent. to 838,700; is dismayed that the figures show that black people were six times more likely to be stopped and searched than white people and that Asian people were twice as likely to be stopped and searched; and calls on the Minister responsible to review the equality agenda to ensure that enough effort is made to tackle inequality and discrimination, which are the underlying causes of these disappointing figures.
