STATE FUNDING OF POLITICAL PARTIES

Early day motion 1869, tabled 21 March 2006 by Geraldine Smith (Labour). Signed by 15 members.

That this House welcomes the review into the funding of political parties which is long overdue; notes that state funding of political parties has been mentioned as a possible solution; further notes that this would be highly unpopular with the British public; and therefore calls on the Government to ensure that a referendum is held before any such proposal is implemented.

Signatures by party: Labour 13, Conservative 2.
