ROYAL NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR THE DEAF'S BREAKING THE SOUND BARRIER CAMPAIGN

Early day motion 1583, tabled 7 February 2006 by Lord Bruce of Bennachie (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 141 members.

That this House notes with concern that the Medical Research Council has revealed that there are four million people in the UK who could benefit from a hearing aid but do not currently use one; therefore supports RNID's Breaking the Sound Barrier campaign, which aims to change attitudes towards hearing loss and hearing aids and to encourage more people to have their hearing tested; further supports the campaign's efforts to tackle denial of hearing loss by creating opportunities for simple self-assessment, such as a five-minute telephone hearing check; and urges anyone concerned about their hearing to call 0845 600 55 55, and to encourage their friends, family and colleagues to do the same.

Signatures by party: Labour 67, Liberal Democrat 33, Conservative 31, DUP 5, Social Democratic and Labour Party 3, Plaid Cymru 1, Scottish National Party 1.
