EFFECT OF LOSS OF SAVER TICKETS ON THE NORTH EAST
Early day motion 1457, tabled 24 January 2006 by Sharon Hodgson (Labour). Signed by 28 members.
That this House recognises that scrapping saver tickets for rail transport and tripling fares for commuters will severely hamper the economic development of the regions, particularly the North East; is disturbed by its potential impact on people on low incomes; believes that increasing the cost of rail travel will increase road usage while government policy prevents improving motorway links out of the North East; and urges reconsideration of these plans in the light of efforts to increase use of public transport.
