CLOSURE OF BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONS IN TONGA, VANUATU AND KIRIBATI

Early day motion 975, tabled 8 November 2005 by Andrew Rosindell (Conservative). Signed by 23 members.

That this House regrets the decision of the Government to close the British High Commissions in the Kingdom of Tonga, the Republic of Vanuatu and the Republic of Kiribati; recognises the important historical ties that these countries have with the United Kingdom; notes with regret that many inhabitants of these countries feel deeply let down by these closures especially in Tonga after 126 years; and urges the Government to continue to staff diplomatic missions in these areas for the continued good relations between the UK and the island nations of the South Pacific.
