FREE TELEVISION LICENCES FOR OVER 65s

Early day motion 835, tabled 24 October 2005 by Eddie McGrady (Social Democratic and Labour Party). Signed by 52 members.

That this House calls for the introduction of free television licences for households with someone aged 65 years and over in view of the BBC's bid to increase the licence fee by 2.3 per cent. above inflation; notes that this concession is presently available to households with someone aged 75 years and over; and believes this should be extended to those aged 65 years and over in line with other secondary benefits provided to this age-group.
