TICKET MACHINE PROVISION BY SOUTH WEST TRAINS AND OTHER TRAIN OPERATING COMPANIES

Early day motion 832, tabled 24 October 2005 by Andrew MacKinlay (Labour). Signed by 22 members.

That this House deplores the failure of train operators generally and South West trains in particular adequately to maintain their ticket machines or, when they are inoperable, to ensure other reasonable alternative arrangements are made available for customers to purchase tickets without either inordinate queuing and delays or the anxiety of travelling without tickets and the danger of the false accusation of fare dodging; and calls for the repeated failure by the operators in meeting their obligations to customers wishing to pay their fares to result in severe financial penalties for the operators.
