INHERITANCE TAX RETURN

Early day motion 671, tabled 21 July 2005 by Lord Hammond of Runnymede (Conservative). Signed by 42 members.

That this House believes that the requirement for completion of a form IHT205 in respect of estates worth less than the inheritance tax threshold is an unnecessary burden on the tax payer; notes that the number of estates below the threshold required to make such returns has increased from 30,000 to 300,000 with the introduction of the IHT205 form and the re-definition of excepted estates; and calls on the Government to end the requirement for estates below the inheritance tax threshold to make a claim.

Signatures by party: Conservative 39, DUP 3.
