KILLING OF CIVILIANS IN ANDIJAN (No. 1)

Early day motion 191, tabled 24 May 2005 by Harry Cohen (Labour). Signed by 19 members.

That this House condemns the murder of many hundred civilians in the Uzbek city of Andijan by military forces of the Uzbek regime; rejects the claim of the regime that those killed, many of them demonstrating against a Stalin-type show trial of businessmen, were Muslim extremists; notes that the Uzbek Government of President Karimov, which in the past has killed Muslim prisoners in boiling water, dismisses any opposition to it as `coming from Muslim extremists'; and considers this slaughter of protesters as deplorable as the killing of students in Tiananmen Square.

Signatures by party: Labour 17, Liberal Democrat 2.
