WELFARE AND QUALITY IN THE BRITISH PIG MEAT INDUSTRY
Early day motion 949, tabled 17 March 2005 by Richard Bacon (Conservative). Signed by 41 members.
That this House commends the British pig meat industry's commitment to high standards of welfare, in particular since the banning of sow stalls and tethers in the UK from 1999; welcomes the launch of the new British Meat Quality Standard for Pork, Bacon, Ham and Sausages; notes that the standard provides an independently audited guarantee of animal welfare, quality control and traceability; and calls on supermarkets and caterers to respond to consumer demand by using the Quality Standard Mark.
