GAME BIRDS
Early day motion 388, tabled 14 December 2004 by Lord Stratford (Labour). Signed by 97 members.
That his House notes that supermarkets are selling intensively reared game meat as if it were wild, natural and free-range; endorses the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee's concern about the welfare of game birds reared for sport shooting purposes; welcomes Government plans to regulate pheasant rearing in the Animal Welfare Bill; and expresses its hope that these regulations will avoid loopholes currently in the Game Farmers' Association code of practice such as the allowing of the fitting of bits to pheasants and a lack of specified levels of space and light for game birds.
