HIT AND RUN DRIVERS

Early day motion 305, tabled 6 December 2004 by Mark Field (Conservative). Signed by 64 members.

That this House views with great concern the increasing prevalence of fatal road accidents caused by hit and run drivers; and calls upon the Government urgently to consider giving magistrates clear guidance to impose upon those found guilty of such an offence a custodial sentence, other than in the most exceptional circumstances, as well as imposing a mandatory minimum five year driving ban.
