MAYOR OF LONDON AND THE EVENING STANDARD

Early day motion 744, tabled 22 February 2005 by Andrew Dismore (Labour). Signed by 65 members.

That this House notes that it is 10 days since Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, made insulting remarks to an Evening Standard journalist; believes that, no matter how long or deep his dispute with Associated Newspapers is, that dispute cannot justify or excuse his language; recognises the offence felt by and concern of the Jewish community at the words he used; calls upon the Mayor to apologise to the Jewish community and the reporter without further delay; and urges him to avoid such unnecessary controversy in the future and to pursue actively the rebuilding of his damaged relationship with London's Jewish community.

Signatures by party: Conservative 39, Labour 13, Liberal Democrat 9, Labour/Co-operative 2, DUP 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
