RURAL DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS AND ANIMAL WELFARE

Early day motion 717, tabled 9 February 2005 by David Drew (Labour/Co-operative). Signed by 50 members.

That this House notes the European Commission proposal for a Council Regulation on support for rural development by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (COM(2004)490), published in July 2004; further notes that the proposed Regulation continues the provision of an existing Regulation that member states must support measures to improve animal welfare standards; and calls upon the Government in its negotiations in Council to resist amendments which would weaken provisions relating to animal welfare.
