BUSINESS RATES ON RENEWABLE ENERGY GENERATION

Early day motion 644, tabled 2 February 2005 by Simon Thomas (Plaid Cymru). Signed by 43 members.

That this House is concerned at the increases in levels of business rates which the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has recently set for renewable energy producers; believes that they will penalise renewable energy production as higher rates must be paid as renewable energy output increases and that this will be a barrier to the achievement of Government targets for renewable energy production; and calls on the Deputy Prime Minister to consult with his Cabinet colleagues in order to improve the co-ordination of Government policy in this vital area.
