FINANCIAL POSITION OF THE PRISON SERVICE

Early day motion 603, tabled 27 January 2005 by Neil Gerrard (Labour). Signed by 45 members.

That this House expresses its deep concern at the financial position of the Prison Service; notes that it has deteriorated to a position where prison accommodation is having to be mothballed at the same time as a large number of prison establishments remain overcrowded; further notes that some prisons are considering cutting offender behaviour programmes due to budgetary restraints placed on them; and therefore calls upon the Government to ensure that a satisfactory financial settlement is agreed for the Prison Service.
