TOURISM

Early day motion 76, tabled 26 November 2003 by David Davis (Conservative). Signed by 56 members.

That this House notes that tourism is the fifth biggest industry in England and the largest industry in both Scotland and Wales; recognises that the industry generates around ú74 billion for the British economy and that there are an estimated 2.1 million jobs in tourism in the UK; further notes that the foot and mouth crisis, global terrorism and the war in Iraq has had a negative impact on the tourism industry; is concerned that since 21st May, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport has issued only one press release relating to tourism; and calls upon the Government to offer much greater support to this vital industry.

Signatures by party: Conservative 52, UUP 2, DUP 1, Independent Conservative 1.
