DEGRADABLE PLASTIC BAGS

Early day motion 49, tabled 26 November 2003 by Caroline Spelman (Conservative). Signed by 66 members.

That this House recognises the environmental advantages of degradable plastics, namely that they can be composted, that they will degrade when exposed to a normal environment and that they are environmentally friendly in their production; notes that 80 per cent. of post-consumer plastic goes to landfill, with only 7 per cent. being recycled; and calls upon the Government to recognise a distinction on environmental grounds between conventional plastics and degradable plastic bags.
