PRICE OF MILK

Early day motion 548, tabled 4 February 2004 by Alan Meale (Labour). Signed by 42 members.

That this House expresses concern about the current balance between the price paid for milk by consumers and that paid to its producers by dairy companies; is further concerned about widespread allegations that processors have created an effective monopoly of prices, supply and demand, which has resulted in consumers and producers detrimentally bearing the brunt of price initiatives; and calls upon the government to investigate this as a matter or urgency, to ensure full confidence in there being a fair and equitable distribution of prices, profits and returns arising from these products.
