BUTLER INQUIRY

Early day motion 728, tabled 1 March 2004 by Harry Cohen (Labour). Signed by 13 members.

That this House notes that the Butler Inquiry into the Intelligence Services' pre-war claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction no longer has bi-party support, and that confidence in it must therefore inevitably be seriously eroded; and believes that as a consequence it should be abandoned in its present form and replaced by an inquiry, with the confidence of all the three main parties represented in the House with a wider remit and a more broadly-based membership, including at least one person who was not in favour of the war and sceptical of the reasons for it.

Signatures by party: Labour 9, Liberal Democrat 2, Labour/Co-operative 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
