MUTUAL HOME OWNERSHIP AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Early day motion 661, tabled 24 February 2004 by Doug Naysmith (Labour/Co-operative). Signed by 125 members.

That this House welcomes the research report, Common Ground - for mutual home ownership, jointly published by the New Economics Foundation, CDS Co-operatives and the Housing Corporation, which recommends the development of co-operative mutual home ownership schemes, with land held in trust by a Community Land Trust, as a means of meeting the acute gap in the supply of affordable housing for key workers and others with average earnings in high cost housing areas; notes that this fully realised model ensures that housing remains affordable for the long term; and urges the Government and the Housing Corporation to support the development of two demonstration projects within the next six months.

Signatures by party: Labour 77, Liberal Democrat 24, Labour/Co-operative 14, DUP 4, Plaid Cymru 3, Conservative 2, Social Democratic and Labour Party 1.
