MR STEVEN GERRARD

Early day motion 1417, tabled 29 June 2004 by John Pugh (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 10 members.

That this House, while recognising the short duration of football careers and the rights of players to secure their future, applauds the decision of Steven Gerrard to remain with Liverpool; recognises that football itself is the loser when only financial motives are in play; regrets the distraction of transfer dealing during international championships; understands the decision of any player to want to play for a team with the passion and pedigree of Liverpool FC; and acknowledges that often what makes football teams great or worthy of support at any level cannot just be bought.

Signatures by party: Labour 7, Liberal Democrat 2, Plaid Cymru 1.
