THE JILBAB AND RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Early day motion 1364, tabled 17 June 2004 by Lord Stratford (Labour). Signed by 17 members.

That this House abhors all forms of religious fundamentalism and bigotry but regrets the ruling by the High Court to uphold a ban on the wearing of the Jilbab by a Muslim schoolgirl; regards the ban as an infringement of personal and religious freedom; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to seek ways to overturn the decision.
