SCREENING FOR ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSM

Early day motion 1579, tabled 22 July 2004 by Howard Stoate (Labour). Signed by 46 members.

That this House notes that rupture of previously undiagnosed abdominal aortic aneurysm has a 95 per cent. fatality rate; that this type of aneurysm kills about 6,000 men each year; notes the results of studies showing a national screening programme for men could save several thousand lives at a reasonable cost; and calls on the Government to introduce a screening programme for older men.
