SNP PENSIONS POLICY

Early day motion 1868, tabled 3 November 2004 by Michael Weir (Scottish National Party). Signed by 7 members.

That this House welcomes the commitment of the SNP to a Citizen's Pension to abolish the unfair system of means-testing, a proposal that has been welcomed by pensioners and pensioner organisations across the country; welcomes the SNP's commitment to extend and substantially increase the basic state pension that will mean at least an extra ú26.40 for single pensioners and ú33.75 a week for couples without the need for intrusive, expensive, inefficient and unfair means testing; and encourages the Government and Labour honourable Members to read the SNP's pensions policy so that they can make informed contributions to debates.

Signatures by party: Scottish National Party 5, Labour 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
