POSTAL SERVICES IN RURAL SCOTLAND

Early day motion 1764, tabled 19 October 2004 by Michael Weir (Scottish National Party). Signed by 18 members.

That this House is concerned that moves by Postcomm, the postal regulator, to open up mail deliveries to competition on an accelerated timetable will put pressure on the maintenance of the universal service obligation and tariff, particularly in rural areas of Scotland; believes that the obligation and tariff are essential for rural areas; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to ensure that under no circumstances will it be abolished or weakened.

Signatures by party: Labour 5, Liberal Democrat 5, Scottish National Party 5, DUP 1, Plaid Cymru 1, UUP 1.
