BRITISH ENERGY AND NUCLEAR POWER

Early day motion 140, tabled 19 November 2002 by Michael Weir (Scottish National Party). Signed by 23 members.

That this House notes the continuing financial difficulties of British Energy and that the existing loan of ú650 million from Her Majesty's Government expires at the end of November; and believes that the continuing problems with the company shows that nuclear power is uneconomic, that no more public funds should be used to prop up the company and that existing nuclear power stations should be phased out at the end of their economic or technological life.

Signatures by party: Labour 10, Liberal Democrat 6, Scottish National Party 5, Plaid Cymru 2.
