FARMGATE PRICES AND SUPERMARKETS

Early day motion 84, tabled 13 November 2002 by John Hayes (Conservative). Signed by 78 members.

That this House is concerned that for every ú1 spent in supermarkets only a fraction goes to British farmers and growers who face the lowest farmgate prices in Europe; and calls upon UK supermarkets to back British agriculture by agreeing fairer trading terms with producers marketing British produce more assertively and reducing the proportion of imported foodstuffs which they sell.
