DOLPHIN DEATHS
Early day motion 509, tabled 14 January 2003 by Adrian Sanders (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 73 members.
That this House notes the failure of Government trials of adapted trawl nets to protect dolphins and porpoises from being caught during the present bass sea fishery season and the numbers of dead dolphins being washed up on west country beaches; further notes that the European Commission is still waiting to be given permission to place observers on fishing vessels; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to seek agreement within the Council of Fisheries Ministers for action to stem the unnecessary slaughter of cetaceans as a matter of the utmost urgency.
