PENSION SECURITY

Early day motion 469, tabled 8 January 2003 by Harold Best (Labour). Signed by 44 members.

That this House notes the failure of the private pension sector to protect people against the inherent risks of the free market system; and calls upon the Government to address the lack of confidence in the private pensions industry by providing appropriate funding and a commitment to the basic state pension as the best long-term hope for funding a secure system of pensions, one immune from the free market's serious weaknesses and with the risks posed to individual savers and investors.
