COUNCIL TAX AND PENSIONS IN DEVON

Early day motion 734, tabled 12 February 2003 by Richard Younger-Ross (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 11 members.

That this House notes that the expected council tax rise in Devon will exceed ú2.30 per week for a band D property, that the expected pension rise for a single person is only ú1.95 per week, and that this represents a net loss for pensioners; and calls upon the Government to ensure that no pensioner is worse off this year and to abolish the council tax and replace it with a fairer system of local taxation.
