EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE OF GAUDIE - ABERDEEN UNIVERSITY NEWSPAPER
Early day motion 1242, tabled 19 May 2003 by Alistair Carmichael (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 5 members.
That this House notes with concern attempts by Aberdeen University Students' Association to influence the tradition of editorial independence of Gaudie, the university newspaper, which is the oldest in Scotland, by removing the power of appointment of the paper's editor from the staff; believes that freedom of the Press is as important in universities as it is anywhere else; and calls on the students' association to reconsider this ill-advised move.
Signatures by party: Scottish National Party 3, Liberal Democrat 2.
