PENSIONER POVERTY, HOSPITAL BENEFITS, AND SECURITY IN OLD AGE
Early day motion 1179, tabled 12 May 2003 by Ashok Kumar (Labour). Signed by 54 members.
That this House welcomes the immediate abolition of cuts to pensions and other benefits for older people who stay in hospital for less than a year; notes that this reform will be a huge relief to many thousands of older people and their families both in Teesside and across the UK; further welcomes the additional cash for older people, including the extra ú100 to be added to the winter fuel payment for the over 80s, announced in the Chancellor's budget; and fully supports the Government's goal of tackling pensioner poverty and guaranteeing security in old age.
