CHURCH OF ENGLAND

Early day motion 1585, tabled 14 July 2003 by Paul Marsden (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 3 members.

That this House condemns the appalling homophobia in the Church of England which has forced the proposed Bishop of Reading, Canon Jeffrey John, to stand down; believes that in the 21st century such open prejudice should not be tolerated anywhere; and expresses its real disappointment in the Archbishop of Canterbury for failing to stand up to this bigotry.
