DEMOCRATICALLY-CONTROLLED HOUSING

Early day motion 1561, tabled 8 July 2003 by Ken Purchase (Labour/Co-operative). Signed by 28 members.

That this House deplores the pejorative use of the term 'social housing' by housing professionals and right-leaning politicians, to distinguish homes in the collective ownership of democratically elected councils and housing mutuals, from homes in individual ownership or the ownership of mortgage companies; and believes that all housing is part of the infrastructure built for social purposes, and should be undifferentiated by tenure.

Signatures by party: Labour 18, Liberal Democrat 8, Labour/Co-operative 2.
