HOUSEHOLD RECYCLING IN WALES AND NORTHERN IRELAND

Early day motion 1461, tabled 24 June 2003 by Julie Morgan (Labour). Signed by 112 members.

That this House welcomes the Household Recycling Bill currently in Parliament which would ensure every household in England is provided with a collection of recycling by 2010; notes also that Labour's Scottish Parliament manifesto has promised a doorstep recycling service for every household by 2010; notes that households in Wales and Northern Ireland are not guaranteed a similar service; further notes that the National Assembly for Wales does not have the powers to require such services and that while the Northern Ireland Assembly is suspended Parliament is the only body that can ensure such services in Northern Ireland; and therefore urges Ministers and the Assemblies to use the current constitutional arrangements in each of these countries to ensure residents of Wales and Northern Ireland are able to recycle as easily as citizens in England and Scotland.
