COMPENSATION FOR SURFACE MINE WORKERS

Early day motion 1801, tabled 22 October 2003 by Wayne David (Labour). Signed by 71 members.

That this House urges all parties to reach an agreement as quickly as possible on the payment of compensation to mineworkers who worked in surface occupations at coal mines and suffer from chronic obstruction pulmonary disease as a consequence; and believes that there is clear medical evidence which demonstrates that certain surface occupations, such as working on the screens, led to exposure to injurious respirable dust.
