RETURN OF A LABOUR ADMINISTRATION FOR THE CITY OF LEICESTER

Early day motion 219, tabled 29 November 2004 by Keith Vaz (Labour). Signed by 48 members.

That this House welcomes the return of a Labour administration to Leicester, albeit a minority one, following the defeat of the Liberal Democrat Party in a vote of no confidence on Thursday 25th November; notes that the Liberal Democrat Administration has been disastrous for the people of Leicester, subjecting them to a record council tax rise and cuts of ú2 million to the voluntary sector, a decision that has been held to be unlawful by the courts; welcomes the election of Councillor Ross Willmott as the new Leader of the Council and Councillor Mary Draycott as the Deputy Leader; and wishes them and the new Labour Cabinet well in serving all the people of the great city of Leicester.

Signatures by party: Labour 43, Labour/Co-operative 5.
