STUDENT TUITION FEES
Early day motion 120A1, tabled 12 July 2001 by Jane Griffiths (Labour). Signed by 3 members.
leave out from 'House' to 'end' and add 'notes that the average tuition fee is ú1,500, that from this Autumn 50 per cent of students will pay no fees at all, and that graduates on average earn 20 per cent more than non-graduates; welcomes the Government's moves to increase access for students who would not normally enter higher eduation, including bursaries for people from more deprived areas and increased help for students with dependants; and, believing in honesty about tax, calls on the Liberal Democrat Party to be honest about their proposals for a graduate tax of ú2,000 to be paid by every student regardless of income.'.
