80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

Early day motion 78, tabled 4 July 2001 by Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 97 members.

That this House congratulates The Royal British Legion on attaining its 80th anniversary on 1st July; pays tribute to the unceasing work of its members on behalf of ex-service people over the past eight decades since its formation in 1921 from four existing organisations, thus creating Britain's premier ex-service organisation with one voice to speak, very often with beneficial results, on behalf of the ex-service community which today, with dependants, forms nearly a quarter of the population; and wishes all associated with The Royal British Legion further success in the years ahead.

Signatures by party: Labour 54, Conservative 15, Liberal Democrat 15, Labour/Co-operative 7, Scottish National Party 2, UUP 2, DUP 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
