USE OF MEDICINAL CANNABIS

Early day motion 59, tabled 2 July 2001 by Paul Flynn (Labour). Signed by 54 members.

That this House deplores the continuing criminalisation of thousands of otherwise law-abiding people who use medicinal cannabis to relieve chronic pain and distress caused by multiple sclerosis, AIDS and the side-effects of chemotherapy; and supports the simple change in the law recommended by the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and the Runciman Report to allow a limited number of doctors to prescribe cannabis to named patients in the same way that millions of other prescriptions are now dispensed.

Signatures by party: Labour 38, Liberal Democrat 9, Labour/Co-operative 4, Plaid Cymru 2, Scottish National Party 1.
