AVIATION WHITE PAPER AND RAIL TRAVEL

Early day motion 1860, tabled 4 November 2003 by David Chaytor (Labour). Signed by 49 members.

That this House welcomes the Government's intention to publish a White Paper on Aviation; recognises that 45 per cent. of air journeys in European airspace are of less than 500 kilometres; and calls on the Government to give the highest priority to the development of rail, and particularly high-speed rail, as a means of reducing dependence on air travel for short haul journeys.
