PUTNEY POST OFFICE

Early day motion 343, tabled 1 November 2001 by Tony Colman (Labour). Signed by 20 members.

That this House, noting that Putney Crown Post Office was recently sold to a private company in advance of so-called public consultation, condemns privatisation of the Post Office by stealth; demands that public consultation should be carried out before the event in any future sales of Crown post offices; deplores the arrogance of Post Office Network in refusing to make public financial details of the disposal of public assets; and calls on the Comptroller and Auditor General to conduct an investigation into the sale of Putney and other Crown post offices to determine whether value for money was obtained.

Signatures by party: Labour 18, Liberal Democrat 1, Plaid Cymru 1.
