EQUAL VALUE PAY FOR FORMER COLLIERY CANTEEN WORKERS AND CLEANERS

Early day motion 231, tabled 15 October 2001 by Jon Trickett (Labour). Signed by 55 members.

That this House warmly welcomes the recent Department of Trade and Industry settlement of the equal value pay claim for significant numbers of former colliery canteen workers and cleaners; congratulates the Government for injecting millions of pounds in regeneration grants for former coalfield communities and for financially supporting the remaining coal mines but regrets the fact that a number of former canteen workers and cleaners have missed out on the equal value claim; and, now urges the Secretary of State urgently to review the situation with a view to remedying this iniquitous position.
