EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNAL COSTS

Early day motion 204, tabled 19 July 2001 by Joan Walley (Labour). Signed by 18 members.

That this House notes the introduction on 16th July of new procedures to award on the spot costs of up to ú10,000 at employment tribunals while at the same time extending the criteria on which costs can be awarded; believes that the new arrangements will deter bona fide low-paid workers from seeking redress; is concerned that this could undermine the founding principles of the employment tribunals; and calls on the Government to review its policy.
