BROADCASTING OF BBC PARLIAMENT AS PART OF STANDARD TERRESTRIAL PACKAGE

Early day motion 660, tabled 15 January 2002 by Lord Field of Birkenhead (Labour). Signed by 31 members.

That this House believes that BBC Parliament should be broadcast as part of the standard terrestrial package along with BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5; further believes that such a move would give greater prominence to the position of Parliament in the country, would help people to understand better the workings of Parliament and would provide an important channel of communication between honourable Members and the public that currently exists only for the most high profile of Parliamentary events; and calls upon the Government to begin broadcasting the Parliamentary Channel as part of the standard terrestrial package with the next year.
