NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR CLINICAL EXCELLENCE

Early day motion 573, tabled 13 December 2001 by Ian Gibson (Labour). Signed by 39 members.

That this House welcomes the recent announcement by the Government that health authorities and primary care trusts will from January 2002 have a statutory obligation to fund all treatments recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence; hopes that this will bring to an end geographical variations in access to treatment for cancer and other diseases; and asks the Government to consider ringfencing funds for treatments recommended by NICE.
