THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE AND ASBESTOS RELATED DISEASES

Early day motion 537, tabled 6 December 2001 by Mike Hancock (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 41 members.

That this House condemns the Government for abandoning its moral obligation to give those armed forces and civilians employed by the Ministry of Defence who have developed asbestosis related diseases the same level of compensation given to miners; recognises the tragic consequences these people and their families are forced to bear and the agonising pain of such diseases; and believes that justice demands that the Government review the level of compensation given to these former armed services personnel and civilian Ministry of Defence employees so that it matches that given to miners.
